Lexus was founded in 1989 as part of Toyota mainly to sell luxury vehicles to the United States. They are Japan's largest seller of luxury cars. Lexus is also the first of the three big Japanese car makers to sell the luxury brand under the same name in Japan (ie: Toyota sells Lexus in Japan while Honda does not sell Acura and Nissan does not sell Infiniti - the cars stay under the parent company name).
